Mark Hines has commenced preparations for an expedition to the North Pole.  The details have not yet been confirmed, although provisionally sometime in the spring of 2012 or 2014, depending upon funding, he will leave from land and make his way to the Geographic North Pole.  The current record is 36 days and 22 hours.  Another athlete, Ben Saunders, will be attempting to beat this record in the late spring of 2011.  Mark will aim to beat whatever the record stands at when he sets off for his attempt.

The primary concerns are the risks from Polar Bears and open leads.  The temperatures can be as low as minus 50 degrees Celsius, and lower with wind-chill.  The distance to the Pole is approximately 480 miles, with boulder fields and open leads presenting the greatest obstacles.

This webpage will be updated as more details become available.

Mark is seeking corporate sponsorship for this expedition, with total costs projected to be in the region of £70k.  If your company might be interested in becoming a sponsor of this world record attempt, then please contact Mark via our email.
